In summer the Pacific Salmon embark in a struggling migration. After roaming the vast ocean for most of their lives they follow their instinct and return to the rivers, where they were born, to spawn. Always moving forward and never giving up whatever the dangers are. This way they sacrifice their lives in order to fill not only the rivers with new life, but also the forest and the sea. They produce such a surplus of nutrients that even humpback whales, which need enormous quantities of food, take here just a few months to consume all they require for a whole year.
Andrea Ramalho and Ralf Kiefner have worked on this documentary for 3 years (each year for 5 weeks). They have produced the documentary on their own costs.
Three different versions of Salmon Forest are available: Salmon Forest (english version), Lachswald (german version), La Forêt de Saumons (french version).

“… Salmon Forest shows so beautifully in just 1/2 hour the message about the importance of the salmon and the glaciers toward the productivity of this area that I, as a biologist, have been trying to pass on for years. Besides, it is some of the best footage of feeding and redistribution of nutrient that I have ever seen.”
